The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Politburo, the highest decision-making body of the party, has demanded that the Centre should take a decision on categorisation of the Scheduled Caste (SC)  reservation as per the Usha Mehara Commission recommendations.

Speaking after a politburo meeting, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu said after reviewing the SC categorisation issue, which the TDP government tried to implement during its rule, it was felt that the Madiga community benefited from the classification. It helped the community get their share in development.

The decision might cause some problems to the Mala community but the party had taken the decision in the larger interest of society, he said. The party, however, was not ready to link the categorisation issue with the separate Telangana demand, he said.

"When key decisions are taken some problems are bound to be there and the party is ready to face the problems. The TDP assures the Mala community that no injustice will be done to them due to the categorisation," the TDP chief said.

The party had decided to launch an indefinite agitation all over the state if the state government failed to restore fee reimbursement for students of professional colleges. It would announce the agitation programmes on Sunday, Chandrababu announced.

The TDP politburo also decided to take up an agitation on farmers' issue and expose the central and state governments 'failures' in addressing several problems and challenges in drought-affected areas.

A delegation of the party would soon meet governor ESL Narasimhan and submit a memorandum to him demanding that all the tainted ministers be dropped from chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy's cabinet.

He expressed shock over how the involvement of ministers, one by one, in corrupt activities was coming out. "Law minister Erasu Pratap Reddy is facing allegations in Cash-for-Bail scam, home minister Sabita Indra Reddy faced allegations of ties with Bhanu Kiran, an accused in Suri murder case, and now minister Danam Nagendar got embroiled in a temple land dispute," the TDP chief observed. He wanted all these ministers to be dismissed from the cabinet.

K Yerran Naidu, Yanamala Ramakrishnudu and N Harikrishna of the 18-member TDP politburo did not attend the meeting.
