Hyderabad: Controversial Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen is in for further trouble as the Hyderabad police has registered a case against her for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of Muslims.
The FIR was filed after the All India Mujlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) — a radical Muslim political party — filed a complaint with the police.
The Panjagutta police said a case had been lodged against Taslima under Section 153(A), dealing with hurting religious sentiments.
Owaisi had lodged the police complaint, saying that Taslima was hurting the sentiments of Muslims by making statements against the Holy Quran.
Legislators and activists of AIMIM had attacked the writer at the Press Club in Hyderabad on Thursday while she was participating in a book release function.
Taslima was in Hyderabad for the launch of the Telugu version of one of her books. She had left the city immediately under police cordon after the incident.
On Friday, the MIM had also issued a new threat to the author, it will not spare her the next time she lands in Hyderabad. The leaders of the party also defended the attack on her on Thursday.
The Hyderabad police have, meanwhile, approached a local court on Saturday to file a case against MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi and Majeed Ullah Khan Farhat of the MBT Party on charges of criminal intimidation.
It's a non-bailable offence and the warrant was issued after the two made a statement, threatening to kill Taslima Nasreen.
