New Delhi: Elaborate arrangements have been made in the capital for the main Independence Day celebrations with over 1,300 personnel deployed across the city to ensure smooth vehicular movement.
Special arrangements have been made to regulate traffic in areas around Red Fort, from where Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will address the nation.
"We have made elaborate arrangements to regulate traffic for the August 15 celebrations and about 1,300 traffic personnel will be manning the Delhi roads," Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Qamar Ahmed said.
Providing details about the arrangements made around the Mughal monument, Ahmed said all major roads leading to the Fort such as Netaji Subhash Marg, Lothian Road, SPM Marg and Chandni Chowk will be closed for traffic from 0500 hrs IST to 0900 hrs IST on Tuesday.
In order to avoid inconvenience in the morning hours on the Ring Road, he advised motorists to use Aurobindo Marg, Safdarjung Road, Mother Teresa Road and Rani Jhansi Road to reach their destinations in North Delhi and vice versa.
Meanwhile, traffic of all heavy commercial vehicles will also remain restricted on the Ring Road from 1400 hrs IST on Monday to 1100 hrs IST on Tuesday.
But the movement of essential items such as milk will be allowed, Ahmed added. Traffic to all major hospitals of the city and the metro stations will remain unchanged but parking will not be allowed outside New Delhi and Old Delhi railway stations from Monday evening till Tuesday.
