CHENNAI: The Chairman, Staff Selection Commission, N K Raghupathy, announced that the Southern Region had successfully completed the introduction of Quality Management System that conforms to ISO standards. Addressing a press conference, he said the region is the third regional office to receive the ISO 9001:2008 certification. He said that the Staff Selection Commission had set a target to for all the nine regional offices will be able to meet ISO standards by September 30.He also said that the Southern Regional Office will be the first, among all regional offices, to provide server connectivity to officials for faster networking. Referring to the online application system, Raghupathy said 40 per cent of the applications were received online and that an increase in number of online applications will help in reducing the expenditure. He said that the commission had addressed problems with the online system raised by candidates.The procedure was modified to ensure that they received an e-mail acknowledgement when they registered for the exams. For the period April 2010 to March 2011, 16 lakh applications were received online at the all India level and 1.22 lakh online applications were received from the southern region. On the number of jobs projected for candidates from the southern region, he said that if applications from the region increases, then there will be a simultaneous increase in number of successful candidates from TN and AP. In the southern region, 1191 recruitments were made in 2010-2011 compared to 327 in 2009-2010. At the all India level, 23178 candidates were recruited in 2010-2011 compared to last years 10249 recruits. Raghupathy said the commission had set a target of recruiting one lakh candidates for the current financial year.
