THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Refuting the allegations, regarding the nonutilisation of funds, the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) has claimed to have spent 43 per cent of the total funds, allotted to it during 2011-12.Out of the Rs 296.32 crore it received in the total outlay of Rs 476 crore, the SSA project had spent Rs 126.95 crore this year when the expenditure was only Rs 114 crore during last year, the office of the State Project Director of SSA said.A statement from the SPD office said that appointments to the post of 23 district programme officer, which were lying vacant, had been filled.Procedures have been completed for the appointment of 35 block programme officers and interview has been fixed in December to make appointments to the 550 BRC trainers who have not been appointed since 2003.In the district, 42 overseers have been appointed to look into the civil works.The SSA has utilised its funds to distribute textbooks to students from Standard II to VIII, free of cost, the statement said.
