Sreerag died of suffocation: Reports

BANGALORE: Software engineer S Sreerag’s death has startled both the police and forensic science officials. They opined this was one of the most complicated suicide cases in recent times. Sources  from Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) said, initially it appeared to be a murder but investigations suggested that it was a clear case of suicide. “The death scene totally misled police, instigating them to register a murder case. It was hard to believe that Sreerag had wrapped his leg with 16 layers of duct tape and after consuming sleeping tablets, he masked his face with polythene bags. Circumstantial evidences such as no fingerprints on the car, undisturbed scene of the crime and sniffer dogs surrounding only the car, helped us conclude it was a suicide,” sources said.Detailing the suicide episode, sources said, “We think first, he had tied his legs and had fastened the seat belt. Later, he had popped sedatives and had consumed water from a bottle, during which, two tablets fell into the water in the bottle. Next, he had gagged a piece of cloth inside his mouth and taped it, before burying his face inside four polythene bags. It is clear that he was aware he would die as he had consumed the tablets with barbiturate (chemical used in sleeping pills) content. But before the medicine could react, he had  died of asphyxia (lack of oxygen).”
