HYDERABAD: Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road is fast turning into a killing field for the city’s speed-loving youth.Early Sunday, cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin’s youngest son, Ayazuddin crashed into a divider on the speedway. The highspeed crash on a superbike killed the pillion rider, his sixteen-year-old cousin Ajmal-ur Rahman, and left the lad grievously wounded.Rushed to hospital by a police Rakshak van, he lay battling for his young life of 19 years.Ayaz is a budding cricketer, the youngest of the former captain’s three sons by his first wife Noureen.Early Sunday morning, he told his uncle Baliguddin that he was going to take his Suzuki GSX R 1000, an Id gift from his father, out for a spin on the Outer Ring Road.According to the police, the mishap occurred at around 6.30 a.m at the Poppalguda toll gate. The duo were on their way back from Shamshabad to Gachibowli when Ayaz, who was reportedly going at full speed, lost control and hit the divider. The impact of the fall was such that parts of the two-wheeler, which skidded, were strewn around the place.Azharuddin, who was in London, was expected to arrive late Sunday night. His mother was also expected to arrive from Dubai where she lives.Ajmal was the son of Azhar’s sister Farah and grandson of former MP Khaleel-ur-Rahman.Ayaz is a second year B.Com (Computers) student of St.Mary’s College while Ajmal was in Intermediate in the same college.Police received information about the accident from an anonymous caller at around 8.30 a.m.Narsingi inspector P Narayana said, “The two boys were lying in a pool of blood. When our personnel reached the spot, someone called Ayaz on his mobile.Police answered the call and learnt that Ayaz was Azhar’s son.We shifted the boys to a private hospital in Jubilee Hills.” Suspicions are being raised whether Ayaz and Ajmal were racing on the ring road. But Chandrasekhar Reddy, deputy commissioner of police (traffic) of Cyberabad, said they have no such information.Sources said Ayaz and Ajmal went for a drive this morning despite advice to the contrary from their uncle Baliguddin.Mahesh Joshi, one of the doctors treating the boy, made a grim prognosis. He said Ayaz suffered grivous injuries to his head, abdomen and chest.“He is in a state of medical cardiac arrest,” he told reporters.“When the two boys were brought to us, they did not have pulse, blood pressure and respiration of their own.Despite our best efforts, Ajmal could not be revived and was declared dead after an hour,” he added A multi-speciality team of doctors operated upon Ayaz and is closely monitoring his condition.“Ayazuddin is undergoing treatment in the ICU and we cannot give any assurance at least for another 24 hours. He is still in a critical condition,’’ Joshi said.Chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy, APCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana, Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, Secunderabad MP Anjan Kumar Yadav and cricketer VVS Laxman visited the hospital and enquired about the boy’s health.Bike was an Id Gift from Dad The Suzuki GSX R 1000 which Ayaz was riding was gifted to him by his dad as a gift on Id ul-Fitr, less than a fortnight ago.Ankith, a childhood friend of Ayaz, said, “We both completed our SSC from Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet. He loves sports bikes. He is also a professional biker. He told me the bike was gifted to him by his Papa on id.He promised to give us a treat.’’ Another friend, Yousuf couldn’t believe the misfortune that befell his pal.The two boys were supposed to go on a long drive on Sunday evening.“He had brought the bike to college only a few days ago,” said Yousuf.Described by friends and well-wishers as a shy and introverted youngster, Ayaz is said to have many of the traits of his father. In fact, several cricketers said both Ayaz and his elder brother Asahuddin reminded them of Azhar.“Their mannerisms remind us of Azhar’s younger days,’’ said John Manoj, a friend of Azhar.Incidentally, both Asahuddin and Ayazuddin play for East Marredpally Cricket Club (EMCC) in the A-Division cricket league. While Asahuddin is a left-handed batsman, Ayazuddin is a middle-order batsman who also bowls off spin.Asahuddin played for the Hyderabad under-25 team and even went to Kolkata for the Kolkata Knight Riders trials.
