Southern Railway has organised special train services from Chennai to Coimbatore via Kanyakumari and Dindigul. This is being done to assist voters in reaching polling stations in their hometowns ahead of Lok Sabha elections. As per an official statement, Train No 06001 Tambaram – Kanyakumari superfast special is scheduled to depart from Tambaram at 4:45 PM on April 18 and 20. It will arrive at Kanyakumari at 4:40 AM the following day. The train numbered 06002, known as the Kanyakumari – Tambaram superfast special, is scheduled to depart from Kanyakumari at 8:30 PM on April 19 and 21. It will arrive at Tambaram at 9:20 AM the following day.
These trains will consist of two AC three-tier coaches, 19 sleeper coaches, and 2 luggage cum brake van coaches. They will make stops at Chengalpet, Villupuram, Vriddhachalam, Trichy, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Sattur, Kovilpatti, Tirunelveli, Valliyur, and Nagercoil.
Train No 06003, known as the Chennai Egmore – Coimbatore special, is scheduled to depart from Chennai Egmore at 4:25 PM on April 18 and 20. It will arrive at Coimbatore at 8:20 AM the following day. Train No 06004, the Coimbatore – Chennai Egmore special, will depart from Coimbatore at 8:40 PM on April 19 and 21. It is expected to arrive at Chennai Egmore at 10:05 AM the next day.
These trains will stop at various stations including Tambaram, Chengalpet, Melmaruvathur, Tindivanam, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Chidambaram, Sirkazhi, Vaitheeswarankoil, Mayiladuthurai, Kumbakonam, Papanasam, Thanjavur, Trichy, Manaparai, Dindigul, Oddanchatram, Palani, Udumalaipettai, Pollachi, Kinathukadavu, and Podanur. Southern Railways special trains from Tambaram to Mangalore, running on specific Fridays and Sundays, include sleeper class coaches and disabled-friendly second class coaches, passing through Chennai Egmore, Perambur, and Katpadi.
Southern Railway is rolling out special trains for the Lok Sabha elections, connecting key locations. These trains offer extra services and amenities for passengers, such as advance reservation options.
Central Railway has also announced its intention to launch 92 summer special train services, which will include several weekly specials. These services are aimed at accommodating the higher volume of passengers expected during the peak season.
