Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kamboj said the landmines, weighing between 15 and 20 kgs, were laid underneath a kucha road in the forest.

The explosives, found during combing operation in the forest on Thursday, were defused, he said.

Meanwhile, a Palamau report said an Area Commander of Jharkhand Prastuti Committee, an ultra outfit, was suspected to have sustained injury in an encounter with the police on Thursday night in Gurturi village of Palamau district.

SP Narendra Kumar Singh told newsmen on Friday that blood stained were found on the spot and the injured commander, Chandan Kumar alias Sikander Bhuiyan, managed to escape.

The security personnel has recovered one carbine, one rifle, 25 cartridges of .315 bore and five cartridges of sten gun, besides one motorbike.

He said the security personnel fired around 200 rounds during the encounter that lasted for about two hours.
