Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board has said it will appeal against the International Cricket Council's (ICC) decision to ban Shabbir Ahmed after gathering evidence that the pacer had corrected his action after being reported earlier.
"We've 14 days within which to file an appeal with the ICC Bowling Action Review Group. But we need to have evidence confirming Shabbir has remodelled his action after his first report and we don't have that," Director of Pakistan Cricket Operations, Saleem Altaf told The News.
"We've called Shabbir to Lahore on the 22nd (December) and we'll then sit down with him and decide on our next course of action and how we can gather evidence to file the appeal," he said.
"For us it's a difficult situation but we've several options before us. We are naturally not going to abandon Shabbir and he has a valid contract with us at the moment," Altaf said.
"But we've to gather evidence to show the ICC Review Group that he has worked hard on his action to correct it."
The ICC had banned Shabbir Ahmed for an illegal bowling action on Monday but gave the bowler 14 days to appeal against the ban with the bowling action review group. The pacer has been reported four times since 1999 for his action.
Altaf said the ICC had informed the PCB that analysis of Shabbir's action by biomechanic specialists had shown that he was transgressing the ICC tolerance level of 15 degrees allowed to the bowlers.
He also said the PCB might seek expert help from abroad torectify Shabbir's action.
