CHENNAI: The Theatre festival and centenary of late Purisai Kannappa Thambiran will take place on October 1, 2 and 3, this year. This seven-year-old theatre fest promises not only to showcase the folk arts of Tamil Nadu but also other art forms from other south Indian villages this year. They have also invited “Janakaraliya - Makkal Kalari,” a theatre group from Srilanka and Kathakali dancers from Kerala to entertain the audience. They will also be conducting workshops on art, therukoothu, modern theatre, folk and Tamil music. Also, during the fest, they will be honouring Sri. Murugan Rao, veteran shadow puppeteer, with a life time achievement award.
