Bobby Deol has been ruling headlines ever since the release of his recent movie, Animal. In a recent interview, the actor admitted feeling ‘disgusted’ while playing his controversial character in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s directorial.
“I used to feel disgusted with myself when I started shooting for it. But then I realised I’m playing a character. Why am I feeling so disgusted, so icky? Fir maine unhi logon ke sath jinke sath scene mein jo bhi kiya hai, fir unke sath hum shaam ko sath mein baith ke khana kha rahe hain (Then whoever I did what I did to in those scenes, I was sitting and having dinner with them later). Everything is normal,” Bobby said during the actor’s roundtable on Film Companion.
In one of his previous interactions, Bobby Deol also called his role in Animal “family-oriented” and “romantic”. “I didn’t think of my character as a villain. I saw my character as a child who was traumatised when he saw his grandfather committing suicide, so he loses his voice. He swears to avenge his grandfather’s death. He is very family-oriented. He is also romantic, he has three wives. He can kill and also get killed for his family,” he said during a session at the Agenda AajTak 2023.
Released on December 1, Animal revolves around a man and his toxic relationship with his father. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the film shows Vijay (played by Ranbir) as an anti-hero who would go to any lengths to protect his father (played by Anil Kapoor). However, despite his efforts, he struggles to get a seal of approval from his emotionally unavailable father. His unhealthy relationship with his father also impacts his bond with his wife, essayed by Rashmika Mandanna.
Animal has also been accused of glorifying misogyny and toxic masculinity by several social media users. However, despite everything, the film is going immensely well at the box office. The film has already crossed the Rs 500 crore mark at the Indian box office.
