THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: R Selvaraj, who resigned as Neyyattinkara MLA five days ago, was  the UDF Government’s favourite among the Opposition MLAs in the district, going by the fund allocation and speedy implementation of projects in the past 10 months. All the other LDF MLAs from the district are blaming the UDF for non-cooperation in fulfilling their promises.   The allegations followed the resignation of Selvaraj a week after the PWD sanctioned `16 crore for the Panchikkattukadav bridge across Neyyar river connecting Thirupuram and Chenkal grama panchayats.  The LDF had accused the UDF of appeasing Selvaraj by promptly sanctioning the project. Administrative sanction and special sanction for the bridge were given on March 2, in a letter from the Chief Engineer (Roads and Bridges) four days previously.  Selvaraj could even surpass his new friend and old neighbour A T George (Congress) of Parassala, whose 10 months in the Assembly could get only `5.5 crore for the constituency for four major roads, including Ottasekharamngalam-Vellanad Road which costs `3.5 crore.  V Sivankutty (CPM), representing Nemom and an ex-comrade of Selvaraj, complained that he was not allotted funds for any of the major demands in his list amounting to `63 crore. “The most important demand was the Mudavanmugal bridge across the Karamana river which costs `11 crore. This was proposed in June 2011 and later followed up periodically. But nothing happened,” he said. Koliyakkode N Krishnan Nair (CPM), the veteran among the members in the district representing Vamanapuram, said,  “As the one-man treasury at Venjarammood has been closed down, I have been trying to get a sub-treasury. But nothing positive has come up. Another demand was to bring my constituency under one DySP as it is divided between Attingal and Nedumanagad. That too did not get the approval,” he said.B Sathyan, District Panchayat former president and a first-timer in the Assembly from Attingal, had many proposals, including a parallel road from Kilimanoor and Thonganad estimated to cost nearly `30 crore. But he could bag projects worth Rs 1.1 crore only. Chiryinkeezhu MLA V Sasi (CPI) had many demands for his new coastal constituency with a large number of fishermen and coir workers. The government did not even include Anjuthengu in the list of 11 fishermen villages announced by the LDF Government even though it is one of the densely-inhabited fishermen villages in the state.Jameela Prakasam (JDS) of Kovalam had been allotted `3.5 crore for various PWD works other than the roads. “I asked for a building for  Poovar sub-registrar office as the records get damaged in the rain. I also proposed civil stations at Karikulam and Poovar. All these projects are yet to materialise,” she said.
