Mumbai: Former Deputy Prime Minister and senior BJP leader LK Advani on Wednesday demanded that the recent joint statement by India and Pakistan on institutional mechanism on anti-terrorism be scrapped immediately.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the golden jubilee celebrations of Upanagari Sikshan Mandal in Mumbai, Advani said since Prime Minister Manmohan Singh must have signed "under pressure from some quarters", the joint statement signed by India and Pakistan on the sideline of the NAM Summit in Havana should be scrapped immediately. However, he declined to elaborate on the issue.
After the meeting between Singh and Musharraf, India and Pakistan agreed to resume the Foreign Secretary-level talks and set up a joint mechanism on anti-terrorism.
Later in the day, Advani unveiled the portraits of Sangh Parivar's founding fathers M S Golwalkar and Dr Keshav Hegdewar at a function held at JVPD Vidyanidhi Educational Institution.
