Lancaster (Texas): Students in Lancaster, Texas had a rough beginning to their new school year.
More than 500 students in the district served in-school suspensions, or were sent home for not finishing their summer homework.
It's part of the district's zero tolerance policy that began last year when over a thousand students were suspended.
Parents had to sign letters saying they knew about the assignments and notices were put up around town that warned students about the deadline.
Dr Larry Lewis LISD Superintendent said, "Homework is important, so we're letting students know that education doesn't stop when you leave the school. It's 24/7 if you're going to be a global competitor."
The high school administrator says the suspended students won't be allowed back in class till they complete their assignments.
