Melbourne: Rolex, title sponsor of the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix, unveiled the new Rolex pit lane clock at the Albert Park circuit here on Thursday. The clock face on a pit lane gantry has been specially designed and created to be present at all the 19 races through the year, according to Formula1.com.
It forms the centrepiece of Rolex's new presence around the circuit at each Grand Prix, which also includes on-track visibility such as bridges carrying the distinctive Rolex brand logo. Arnaud Boetsch, communication and image director of Rolex SA said: "This is a historic moment for Rolex as we commence a very exciting and fascinating partnership with Formula 1. The shared values between Formula One and Rolex are strong and our pit lane clock symbolises the concept of precision, quality, high performance and the pursuit of excellence on a global stage."
Former World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart, a Rolex Testimonee, said: "Having worked with Rolex for 45 years it is wonderful to be with them today here in Australia. I felt quite emotional when I saw the clock and the crown logos around the track."
Bernie Ecclestone, Formula 1 supremo, said: "It is superb to have Rolex with us for the first time and nice to see a prestigious brand so strongly represented around the circuit. We welcome them to the Formula 1 family and look forward to a long partnership." The 2013 Formula 1 season kicks-off this weekend.
