RG Kar's Ex-Principal Sandip Ghosh To Now Face SIT On 'Questionable' Financial Dealings In Last 3 Years
According to an FIR, the allegations against Dr Sandip Ghosh include procurement of CCTV footage, issuing work orders for canteen and hostels, ordering laptops on rental, buying furniture and taking bribes from contractors

The controversial former principal of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Dr Sandip Ghosh is now in the crosshairs of a newly formed special investigation team probing him for alleged financial corruption. He is already appearing before the CBI daily in the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the medical institution.

The SIT contacted Ghosh on Wednesday (August 21) with the allegations and complaints received against him after an internal inquiry by the West Bengal health department. He is likely to be interrogated soon as investigators look into his “questionable” financial dealings in the last three years.

News18, which has access to documents, has learnt that the allegations include procurement of CCTV footage, issuing work orders for canteen and hostels, ordering laptops on rental, buying furniture and taking bribes from contractors.

Two FIRs filed against Dr Sandip Ghosh

Significantly, there are two active cases against the former RG Kar principal — both registered by the Kolkata Police earlier this week while he also received notices to undergo questioning in these cases.

The gravity of the situation is reflected in the two FIRs filed against him — one by the state health department and the other for his alleged disclosure of the rape-murder victim’s identity, a serious violation that has further intensified the legal scrutiny on him.

On August 20, the four-member SIT — headed by an inspector general-ranked officer – took up the FIR based on complaints by the health department. In this specific FIR, Ghosh has been charged with sections pertaining to forgery, fraud and criminal conspiracy under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The other FIR against him has been invoked under sections pertaining to revealing a victim’s name and identity.

As the investigation progresses, his role in alleged financial corruption is expected to come under greater scrutiny, potentially leading to severe legal repercussions.

A senior IAS officer in the state health department said the SIT has been requested to file its report soon. Based on the content of the report, Ghosh is likely to face serious legal and penal actions, which may include dismissal from service, the senior officer said.
