THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Monday said a comprehensive rehabilitation package was being planned for Gulf returnees. Replying to a calling attention motion moved by Ramesh Chennithala in the Assembly, Chandy said the package would be implemented with the help of the Central Government and banks. “The government had begun efforts in this direction,” he said. The package, he said, envisages effective utilisation of the skills of thousands of Keralites returning from the Gulf countries owing to political unrest or other issues in those countries.Problems faced by NRKs will be discussed at a ‘Pravasi Malayali Sangamam’ planned to be held here on December 29 and 30 and at a subsequent conference of Malayali organisations in the Gulf. “They also will be a prelude to Emerging Kerala 2012,’’he said. Referring to the increased flight fares during festival seasons, Chandy said that Union Minister Vayalar Ravi had been informed of the travel problems faced by Malayalis in the Gulf sector.Kerala State Housing Board: The UDF Government had no plans to dissolve the Kerala State Housing Board (KSHB), Finance and Housing Minister K M Mani said. Mismanagement by the LDF government had caused the KSHB to plummet into a crisis.  However, in a bid to revive KSHB, the government was designing new projects, Mani said. The government also plans to scrap the Maithri Housing Project, he said.
