Rajasthan: The three-member Justice JS Verma Committee after submitting its report on the changes recommended in laws dealing with crimes against women pointed out that poor governance was one of the main reasons for the rising crime graph.
It is due to the lack of good governance that a 11-year-old girl who was brutally gangraped in Rajasthan's Sikar is fighting for her life in a hospital. Even though the Ashok Gehlot government made several promises after the Delhi gangrape case but it has failed to fulfil them. The girl has undergone 14 surgeries but her condition has not yet stabilised and four out of the six accused of raping her are yet to be apprehended by the police.
The girl has been undergoing treatment at Jaipur's JK Lone hospital for the last five months. She was brought from Sikar to Jaipur for better treatment and has already been operated upon 14 times. Yet there is no improvement in her condition. The doctors performed two operations on her five days ago, but they were not successful.
Her family has started losing faith in the hospital and has begun demanding that she be referred to a bigger and better hospital. They have been slowly losing the hope of her recovery.
Now the hospital has proposed to do another operation on the girl, but due to her unstable condition the timing is yet to be decided. The Gehlot government had assured all possible help to the girl and her family when the case came to light, but her family is still fighting for justice.
The state government had also promised to send the girl outside India to a place which had world-class medical facilities. But none of the promises have been fulfilled. The Chief Minister has promised strict action and fast-track courts but they are yet to materialise.
The girl was gangraped by five men in a jeep on August 20, 2012 and left injured badly. Two of the accused have been identified as Suresh Kumar Jat and Ramesh Kumar Sharma. Both of them belong to influential families which are involved in the business of stone crushing and tiles.
Justice Verma on Wednesday said that existing laws are enough but due to insensitivity in the police force and administration has been following, the situation has become alarming. Due to poor governance four accused are roaming free and they are also getting help from the police, alleged the victim's family.
