CHENNAI: A The railways would coordinate with the Chennai Corporation to maintain hygiene and cleanliness in city railway stations, said S Anantharaman, Divisional Railway Manager, Chennai Division, Southern Railway.Briefing newspersons on the sidelines of flagging off the inaugural Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) special between Chennai Central and Tiruvallur here on Sunday, he said, the railways and Chennai Corporation would carry out a joint inspection for the purpose next week.Pointing out at the vegetation and unclean environment around the railway stations, he hinted that services of the Corporation could be utilised to maintain cleanliness within and outside the railway premises. Asked whether men from the civic body would be deployed for the proposed initiative, he clarified that better picture would emerge only after the joint inspection.Earlier, Mayor Saidai S Duraisamy offered assistance from the Corporation for the railways, in the event of any hurdles to execute works. “We (the Chennai Corporation and Chennai Division of the Southern Railway) would work together for ensuring hygiene in railway stations.N Balaganga, Rajya Sabha member, urged the the Rail users to keep the trains clean.
