KOCHI: As part of the initiative to completely stop the sale of banned pesticides in state, the district administration has decided to intensify inspection of the shops that sell pesticides. In a statement, District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth said agriculture squads would conduct regular inspection and submit weekly reports to him.Pareeth said the assistance of police will be sought, if required, and Motor Vehicles Department has been ordered to conduct inspection on vehicles that are suspected to transport banned pesticides. The pesticides that are seized would be burnt. If the pesticide is not burnt immediately, the shop owner will have to pay the expense for it. He stated that it is found that most number of banned pesticides are sold under Kochi Corporation.
