Rahul pleads not guilty to drug charges
Rahul Mahajan and five other accused on Wednesday pleaded not guilty to the charges framed in a drug abuse case.

New Delhi: Rahul Mahajan, son of late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan and five other accused, on Wednesday pleaded not guilty to the charges framed in a drug abuse case.

Additional Sessions Judge S N Gupta while considering the stand of the accused posted the matter to February 21 for commencement of trial.

Appearing before the court, Mahajan along with co-accused Sahil Zaroo, two Nigerian nationals Abdul Lateef Ashola Md Abdullah and Egbedokun James Taiwo, Harish Sharma, a close aide of late Pramod Mahajan and servant Ganesh Sinha recorded their statements pleading not guilty to the charges.

The court had on January 6 ordered framing of charges against Mahajan for allegedly purchasing drugs for personal consumption but was spared the graver charge of financing of illicit trafficking in drugs.

He was charged under sections 27 (personal use), 21 read with 29 (criminal conspiracy and abetment) and 25 (allowing his premises for commission of the offence) under Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Act.

Zaroo was charged under Sections 21 (sale and purchase of drugs) read with 29 (abetment and criminal conspiracy) of the Act and section 419 (punishment for cheating by impersonation) of IPC.

Against the two Nigerians, the court had framed the charges under Sections 21 (sale and purchase of drugs) and 29 (abetment and criminal conspiracy) with additional charge under Section 21-B against James Taiwo under the Act.

Harish Sharma and Ganesh Sinha were both charged under sections 201 (destruction of evidence)and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC.
