CHENNAI: The Public Works Department (PWD) has identified 11 areas in the city and has taken precautionary measures to stop inundation in these localities in the wake of cyclone Thane hitting the Tamil Nadu coast on Friday, according to PWD sources. Chief engineer of PWD’s water resources department, S S Rajagopal, told Express that a high-level meeting chaired by PWD secretary was held on Thursday to take precautionary measures in the wake of the cyclone hitting the coast. “We have formed a team of PWD engineers who are monitoring vulnerable spots... and have stationed earthmovers to remove obstructions and ensure free flow of water in these localities so that inundation can be avoided.” The areas identified included Ennore, Jafferkhanpet, Kathirvedu Thangal, Vadaperumpakkam, Baraniputthur in Porur, Cooum Mouth, Island Grounds, Basin Bridge, Korukkupet, Kargil Nagar and Sathya Murthy Nagar, he said.
