A plane carrying the minister returned to the NSC Bose
airport within minutes of take-off due to a technical snag.

Kolkata: A Delhi-bound domestic flight carrying 129 passengers, including Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee and five crew members, returned to the N S C Bose International Airport on Monday evening following a suspected technical fault.

The pilot detected a technical problem within 15 minutes of take-off at 1720 hours IST and sought permission from the ground control to return, a spokesman for Indian said.

All the passengers and crew members were safe, he added.

The Defence Minister later took a Kingfisher Airlines flight at 1820 hours IST for Delhi "as he was in a hurry to attend a meeting," the spokesman said.

The passengers were later accommodated in another Indian plane, which took off for Delhi at 1910 hours IST.

The spokesman said once the snag is fixed the aircraft would be used for a flight to Mumbai.
