The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) proposed an advance tendering system for re-carpeting of roads damaged during monsoon. It will help the corporation to take up works without delay and avoid the lengthy procedures of existing tendering system.
To facilitate repair works on war-footing, tenders will be awarded to empanelled registered contractors who will be selected before the arrival of rainy season on the basis of estimated damage-work caculated by officials.
Speaking to Express, GHMC commissioner M T Krishna Babu said the existing tendering system is time-consuming and takes weeks to finalise tenders for re-carpeting of roads during monsoon. “The GHMC has earmarked funds for the new system at zonal levels. Estimates of the damage will be calculated in advance and will be intimated to registered contractors,” he said.
Officials said the GHMC engineers will be asked to prepare the estimates of vulnerable roads in advance. As contract rate is fixed by the GHMC, the contractors will be required to submit bills spent on completion of recarpeting of damaged roads. The authorities will also inspect the site to verify the repair work, an official added
The GHMC spends Rs 4-5 crore for recarpeting of the roads annually. The advance tendering system is being implemented at Benguluru, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and other cities.
