BANGALORE: A division bench, comprising Chief Justice (CJ) J S Khehar and Justice Ashok B Hinchigeri, posted a batch of PILs seeking directions to reopen the HAL Airport for commercial purposes, before the Registrar General to place them before an appropriate bench. The bench passed the orders following one of the petitioners filing additional documents running into 200 pages before the bench. The matter filed in 2008 was earlier reserved for orders after eight different benches heard it in the past. The CJ bench was the ninth bench which heard the matter and finally had reserved the orders. The petitioners had filed the PIL contending that a Parliamentary Committee on Transport, Culture and Tourism had recommended the reopening of the HAL airport which was closed for commercial operations in May 2008.The CJ observed that an entire vacation was spent on the matter and when it was finally reserved for orders, additional documents have been placed. “The petitioners should have faith in justice, it is not like every case can be won or lost,” the court observed. However, the court later directed the Centre to file objections.
