PUDUCHERRY: Chief Secretary M Sathiyavathy, on Monday, said that vehicles with Global Positioning System (GPS) would be used for transporting the ration items meant for the PDS shops.Speaking at a function organised for issuing the Aadhar integrated smart cards, she said this would help monitor the movement of vehicles and ensure that the ration items reached the shops. She added that the system would be in place by April, 2012.Explaining the feature of the Smart Cards, she said if a customer registered the UID number using a mobile with the ration shops, then the availability of the commodities would be intimated.Speaker V Sabapathy, Ministers P Rajavelu, N G Pannriselvam, T Thiagarajan, M Chandrakasu, G Ragesh Chandra, IAS, P Priyatarshny, director-cum-joint secretary were present.
