Pak violates ceasefire again, fires across LoC
The Army has confirmed that there was no retaliation from the Indian side.

New Delhi: While Jammu burns, there are reports of more ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC). Early on Thursday morning, Pakistani troops fired eight mortar rounds in the air in the Rajouri sector.

No casualty has been reported.

The Army has confirmed that there was no retaliation from the Indian side.

This is the 26th ceasefire violation along the LoC this year.

Pakistani troops had fired 60 mm mortars and small arms at Indian posts in the Poonch sector early this month. India had then reciprocated with small arms fire.

Last month, India lodged a strong protest against firing by Pakistani troops along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir. Defence Minister A K Antony had then urged Islamabad to respect the ceasefire in place since 2003.

In a statement in New Delhi, Antony said: "Pakistan must fully respect the ceasefire agreed to between the two sides and adhere to the already existing mechanism to deal with border violations".

An Indian soldier, Sepoy Mahesh Kumar of the 22 Rajput Regiment, and four Pakistani troops were killed in the firing after a group of 10-12 soldiers intruded into Indian territory in the Nowgom area of north Kashmir.

But despite tension on the borderline between the two neighbours, the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service resumed on Thursday, coming as a breather to many tourists stranded in the Valley.
