Doha: India will depend on their spearheads Leander Paes and Sania Mirza as they launch their tennis campaign at the Asian Games on Monday.

But with many of the other countries in the continent having made rapid progress in the sport since the last Asian Games in Busan, the Indians will face a more daunting task this time around.

However, they have the experienced players to handle the pressure and the expectations of fans back home.

Though Asia's number one woman player Ai Sugiyama is not here, other big names, including Chinese number one Li Na — ranked 21st in the world — will be around to make life difficult for the Indians.

India's hopes largely rest on Sania, ranked sixth in Asia and 67th in the world, but Li Na has several impressive wins over the world top 10 players, including her stunning display at Wimbledon this year.

Sania, on the other hand, has struggled on the circuit this year with injuries hampering her progress to some extent.

However, her victory with Rohan Bopanna in last week's Asian Hopman Cup mixed team event should serve as a morale booster.

What's your reaction?
