BHUBANESWAR: Odisha’s wait for international flight operations is set to be over soon with low-cost domestic carrier Indigo on Friday announcing plans to start flights to overseas destinations.It will shortly commence connecting flights to South-East Asian countries followed by seamless direct flights to destinations like Bangkok after obtaining necessary approvals from the Government, Regional Manager, Indigo, Sanjib Bhattacharya said.“We are also planning to commence connecting flights to the Middle Eastern countries with major destinations like Dubai and Muscat via Mumbai and New Delhi,” he said at the Invest Bhubaneswar symposium that got underway here on Friday.The number of flights between Bhubaneswar and Delhi has been increased from two to three from Friday while a direct flight between Bhubaneswar and Bangalore, Bhubaneswar and Chennai via Vizag, a morning flight to Kolkata and a third flight to Hyderabad would also be introduced shortly, he said.Besides, Flydubai, the national carrier of Dubai, has also evinced interest in introducing flights from major international destinations to Bhubaneswar. The first would be a seamless connectivity route out of Dubai into Odisha. It is waiting for the Government to grant it additional rights to reach out to more parts. It is now operating flights to Lucknow, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. The focus is on Tier II and III cities for the carrier.The 2nd Invest Bhubaneswar symposium, organised by The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), Bhubaneswar Chapter, and inaugurated by Revenue Minister S N Patro also saw a slew of agreements inked for investment and entrepreneurship between local and international partners.The Human Development Foundation (HDF) signed a pact with Kolkata-based Infinity Group and Bournville College, UK, to launch Infoskills to provide vocational training in the State. The SHRA Foundation announced plans for establishment of a 650-bed hospital and 100-seat medical college at Keonjhar while Bhubaneswar-based Tatwa Technologies has entered into a joint venture with Toronto-based CSD Systems to launch innovative IT products for citizen-centric governance.It would provide jobs to over 100 people in the early phase and cater to Asia and African markets, MD, Tatwa, Ayaskant Mohanty said.Chief Secretary B K Patnaik assured that each of the ventures will receive highest priority in terms of approval and support from the Government. One of the major bottlenecks in attracting investment to the State __ lack of international connectivity __ is all set to be removed in the days to come, he said.
