Patna: Over 4,000 doctors on Monday abstained from work in Bihar to protest against the Centre's proposal to set up the National Commission of Human Resources for Health (NCHRH) to regulate medical services in the country and related policies, an Indian Medical Association spokesman said.

"Over 4,000 doctors abstained from work to protest the Centre's proposal to set up the NCHRH in place of the Medical Council of India (MCI) to regulate health services in the country, some anti-doctors provisions in the Nursing Home Act and to press for demand like equal pay for equal work," IMA spokesman Ranjit Kumar said.

The doctors kept the emergency services out of the ambit of their agitation, he said.
