For the unversed, NSS is a service program for students studying in senior secondary school or college. Volunteers are expected to participate in community service. As a part of this, NSS students of JSS College are revamping the government schools. In Hunsur, Mysuru, many government schools have already been painted and beautified to look vibrant and attractive.

Generally, every government school is designed on a need-analysis of the school. The ultimate aim is to offer an ideal ambience to students, which will motivate them to study and push for their holistic development through infrastructure and other ways. The NSS volunteers are currently prioritising cleanliness. They are making efforts to clean the premises of the school to ensure proper sanitary and hygiene standards are practised. After this, the schools will be revamped with a coat of paint.

As per reports, the paint arrangements are being made by the JSS medical college and the students have volunteered to paint those schools. A few walls are painted in dual shades of green and brown or yellow and brown. Apart from a coating of paint, students are also making the walls look attractive for the junior and primary students by drawing motifs of pots and what looks like tribal folk. To catch the eye, they have used vibrant and bright colours for the drawings.

Over 50 NSS volunteers have visited schools located in the Honnali municipal council in the Davanagere district of Karnataka. They have also made visits to schools in the Kuttavadi village, and other government schools in Hunsur. They have offered these schools with different types of sports equipment, study materials, mixers and cookers for the school’s kitchen almirahs and tables with the help of generous donors.
