CHENNAI: Governor K Rosaiah on Monday launched a scheme to supply purified water to 10 villages in Tiruvallur district. The scheme is an initiative of the Sree Balaji Seva Trust. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Governor said that trusts, voluntary organisations and NGOs should come forward to support people’s welfare projects. They should be facilitators and not stumbling blocks, he added. Pointing out that overall development can be brought about only with support from all quarters, he said that such trusts, voluntary organisations and like-minded, service-oriented people were needed. The scheme is being implemented in 10 villages with funds to the tune of `10 lakh. Water will be drawn through borewells in these villages, which will then be purified under the Reverse Osmosis (RO) system. On the occasion, B-Force, an NGO, was given an Outstanding Public Service Award for their services in the field of cancer care and treatment to poor patients. Since 2010, the NGO had been supporting treatment and care for at least 50 cancer-affected persons and has helped them recover from the disease. The organisation has extended its service to the beneficiaries free of cost, a press release issued said.
