CHENNAI: An advanced neurospine clinic was inaugurated at Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre by Dr Motoi Shoda, world-renowned Japanese neurospine surgeon and Director of the Spine Centre, Fujita Health University — Japan.There is a collaborative arrangement with SRU for imparting clinical and surgical training to its neurosurgeons.Delivering the NPV Ramasamy Udayar oration in neurosciences here on Thursday, he said advancements in neuro-imaging, microsurgery and instrumentation in spinal surgery have helped achieve a high rate of success and patient satisfaction.Dr Shoda demonstrated some of the complicated microsurgeries he had done through video presentations that were witnessed by surgeons from different parts of India. It was also telecast to many medical institutions in India and abroad through telemedicine and the Pan-African Network of SRU.Dr K Selvakumar, HOD-Neurosurgery, SRU said the clinic will help in early detection and a cost effective appropriate treatment of the spinal cord and nerve root disorders. Two dedicated neurosurgery operation theatres with advanced operating microscope and micro instruments backed by an experienced team of neurosurgeons, are the hallmarks of this clinic.The clinic will have dedicated neuro anaesthetists and be supported by highly skilled neuro interventional radiologists to deal with spinal vascular disorders.
