Change ensures question hour proceeds despite member's absence.

New Delhi: The Lok Sabha Rules Committee has decided to amend rules on question hour to ensure it proceeds without interruption even if the member who asked the question is absent.

The decision was taken on Thursday at the first meeting of the committee, presided over by Speaker Meira Kumar, sources said on Friday. Deputy Speaker Karia Munda and seven members of the committee were also present at the meeting - the first since the 15th Lok Sabha was constituted last year.

According to the new rules, all listed questions must be taken even if the MP who asked the question is not present in the house.

The decision follows the situation after the speaker was forced to adjourn the question hour on November 30 during the winter session, as several MPs listed to ask questions, were absent. The house was adjourned 30 minutes before completion of the question hour.

The Rajya Sabha on December 15 amended the rules on question hour.

The rules committee also decided to allow MPs to wear the tricolour to the house.
