CHENNAI: DMK president M Karunanidhi is now pining hopes on the Delhi High Court with regard to grant of bail to his daughter and party MP Kanimozhi. This he indicated during a media interaction here when asked for his reaction to the repeated denial of bail for Kanimozhi in the 2G spectrum case. Karunanidhi, however, did not reply to questions on the trial of 2G case. To query on the present status of the alliance with the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government, he maintained that the DMK would always follow the alliance dharma. About the hike in petrol price, the DMK patriarch said that the increase in fuel prices would only add to the burden of the common man. “When the petrol price goes up, it results price escalation of almost all commodities,” Karunanidhi opined and added “we have been suggesting the Centre to look for alternatives as and when the fuel price is hiked. We hope the Centre will also think on these lines.” He chose not to comment when asked about the sharp remarks made by BJP president Nitin Gadkari and the Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the fuel price hike. Karuananidhi, in a statement, flayed State Election Commissioner S Ayyar over the way the local body polls were conducted and demanded the SEC to swear that the polls were conducted in a free and fair manner.
