Memogate: Lawyer says Ijaz won't come to Pak
His lawyer Akram Sheikh claimed that a trap has been laid and Ijaz will be arrested upon his arrival.

Islamabad: Pakistani-American businessman Mansoor Ijaz, one of the key figures in the memo scandal, will not come to Pakistan because he will be arrested upon his arrival, his lawyer Akram Sheikh said on Monday.

Sheikh said that a trap has been laid and he will be arrested upon his arrival, Geo TV reported. Ijaz was expected to appear on January 24 before a three-member judicial commission set up by the Supreme Court to investigate the memo scandal.

Ijaz claimed to have delivered a secret memo to the then US chief of staff Gen. Mike Mullen at the behest of the then envoy to the US Husain Haqqani and the Pakistani government to avert a likely military coup. The ensuing scandal has generated much heat in Pakistan.

Sheikh said Ijaz is currently in Dubai and added that a reply has been sent to Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq regarding the security steps taken for Ijaz. He termed the measures "unsatisfactory" and told the authorities that his client has been constantly receiving threats.
