Members of SHG seek wage dues; stage protest

PUDUCHERRY:  Members of Self-Help Group (SHG) engaged in garbage removal in Shakthi Nagar of Nellithope staged a protest against non-payment of wage arrears on Monday.The members were working on contract till June 30 this year and the work for garbage clearance was entrusted with the Puducherry Municipal Services Private Limited (PMSPL) on July 1.The SHG members who were not paid their salary for the past five months prevented the PMSPL workers from clearing the garbage and heaped it on a public area. Nellithope AIADMK MLA Om Sakthisekar held discussions with Puducherry Municipality Commissioner K T Alagiri, who assured that the salary arrears of the SHG workers would be cleared. The SHG members withdrew the agitation following the assurances.
