KOCHI: The Agricultural Urban Wholesale Market in Nettoor in Maradu municipality has been showing a record growth over the last two weeks. Even on Wednesday, the first day of the Malayalam month of Chingam, an off day for farmers, the auction recorded over Rs 50,000 profit. Deputy Director, Maradu Agriculture Wholesale market, Sherly A Baby, said that even though many farmers were absent, the total market trade recorded about Rs 50,000 increase on Wednesday. Last week the market witnessed trade to the tune of over Rs 1 lakh profit. Around 31 vegetables were auctioned last day. More people are coming to know about the market and arriving in huge numbers, she said. According to her, vegetables come from the nearby eight panchayats and farmers auction them. They are fresh and cheap. With the Onam season approaching the rush will increase substantially, she said.
