Beijing: India and China are expected to sign Border Defence Cooperation Agreement during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Beijing while Confidence-Building Measures (CBM) in the military field along the Line of Actual Control is likely to be upgraded.
Setting up a hotline between border commanders, holding frequent meetings between the officials of two countries and no hot pursuit in case of inadvertent transgressions would all be discussed during Manmohan's visit. The Prime Minister's visit to China is historic as this is the first time since 1954 that prime ministers of the two countries would travel to each other's country in the same year.
However, there are many thorny issues between the two neighbours such as frequent transgressions by the Chinese troops at the LAC and widening trade deficit of $38.66 billion. Other important issues include the trade figures which in the past year have fallen to $67 billion.
"It is of great importance to deepen China-India strategic partnership as the visit follows the visit of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang to India in May," China's foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying had announced in Beijing on Monday.
Manmohan Singh, who on Wednesday left for China after meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin, is also expected to discuss matters like China's nuclear cooperation with Pakistan, Chinese construction activity in PoK and stapled visa issue for Arunachal Pradesh residents.
The Prime Minister during his visit will also have the rare honour of being received by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The Indian team comprises of a large business delegation aimed at increasing bilateral trade between the two nations. China too is keen in setting up SEZs in India.
The leaders of both the countries will also discuss cooperation in railways, road infrastructure and threat of terrorism.
