KOCHI: Regarding the decision to discontinue the publication of Prabha Varma’s poem from ‘Samakalika Malayalam Varika’, writers and poets have come out supporting the rare gesture of Editor S Jayachandran Nair, terming it a humanitarian move.“Prabha Varma’s dual stand has been evident throughout his writings. How can we trust a poet who maintains different stances in his writings? Such people should not have given a chance to write in the magazine. The Editor has the right to judge and make the final call,” opined noted poet Pazhavila Ramesan.According to Paipra Radhakrishnan, S Jayachandran Nair’s act has been the most brave ever in the history of Malayalam literature. “He proved that he is one of the last generation of editors who still maintains the true spirit of an editor. Prabha Varma’s writings cannot be approved,” he said.Meanwhile, renowned writer M T Vasudevan Nair and poet O N V Kurup chose to stay away from the issue. Writer Satchidanandan termed the decision impulsive. “If the Editor wanted to protest, he should have come out with an article, instead of discarding the poem,” he said.
