Learn from past: SEC to collectors

CHENNAI: State Election Commissioner S Ayyar on Tuesday commenced his district-wise review of preparations for the forthcoming local body polls. In the first phase, Collectors and police officials from Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore and Cuddalore and Villupuram took part.Referring to the criticisms leveled during the 2006 local body polls, the SEC said all officials should keep in mind this and ensure that there would be no room for such complaint this time.The SEC also referred to an incident in 2006 wherein one of the fingers of a teacher who was engaged in election work was chopped off. In Chennai, all booths should be treated as sensitive, the SEC said.
