THIRUVANATHAPURAM: It could be a huge step towards popularising poetry. Kavyakeli, the city-based forum which is into popularising and studying about literature, and poetry in particular, is launching ‘Kaviyude Veettil’, a new initiative that gives the new generation an opportunity to know about the stalwarts, both living and dead, of poetry. Budding poets and lovers of the genre would spend hours together at the residence of a poet. They would get to know these poets up close. They would discuss the life and times of the poet, appreciate the works, recite the poems and understand their way of writing. If the poet is alive, they would hold an interaction with the person. And if the poet is no more, they would meet the poet’s family members, would conduct an open discussion about the present and future of poetry and hold a ‘kaviyarangu’. From 9 am to 4 pm, the group would be at the residence of the poet. The venture would be held once a month. The inauguration would be held at Asan Smarakam, Thonnakkal, on May 29 at 9 am. The group would come together at the residence of poet Kumaran Asan. They would know more about Kumaran Asan’s life, works and way of writing and a recital of his poems would also be held. Next month, the group would come together at the residence of Sugathakumari. Those who love poetry and are aged below 35 can take part. Interested persons should contact Secretary, Kavyakeli, Sabarmathi, Murukkumpuzha (PO), Thiruvananthapuram and register their names. For details, contact 0471-2305663 or 9387018695.
