BANGALORE:  The largest investors in the Global Agri-business Summit-2011 in agriculture-related businesses were Harold Doan and Associates Limited and Srei Infrastructure Finance Limited, who have invested Rs15,500 crore each.Companies had also come forward to invest in allied areas such as post-harvest infrastructure, agro business investment region, ABIA, tourism investment zone and agri-business projects.The impression was that the government had left no stone unturned in inviting investment.The government had also solicited investments in areas such as horticulture, sericulture and agri-infrastructure on the second day of the summit."Allied sectors need to grow and better technology, markets and research are essential. This summit is for the benefit of farmers,” said Minister for Labour and Sericulture B N Bachchegowda.Speaking at a session on agri-infrastructure, Secretary of Infrastructure Department Rajkumar Khatri said the previous successes of PPP agreements for infrastructure projects, can be replicated in the agriculture sector too. “Budgetary constraints in the state will have to be matched with capital coming from private partners,” he said.
