A search of Lalit Modi's premises by the Income Tax department has revealed that he had used at least eight credit cards issued by foreign banks while working as the Indian Premier League (IPL) chief.
According to The Times Of India, the cards were not issued in his name. They were in the names of his brother-in-law Suresh Chennaram and his stepdaughter Karima.
In response to a notice in this regard, the former IPL czar clarified that he used them only to make travel bookings for his family members, and not for his personal expense.
And in even more trouble for Lalit Modi, details have also emerged on the pressure tactics used by him during his tenure as the IPL chief.
According to the emails that were released by Modi's lawyer, reports suggest that he threatened to make the Kochi franchise play their home games in Bhiwani and Guwahati if they didn't agree to relinquish their bid.
One of the emails released is by a former stakeholder in the IPL franchise, where he claimed that in order to get Kochi to give up its bid, Lalit Modi delayed the construction of the Kochi stadium.
