KSP may postpone state meet

State Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP) president Pundalika Halambi said that they may postpone the 79th state literary conference planned in Bijapur.

He said the KSP is not interested in spending money for the literary festival when the people here were hit by severe drought. “The people have been facing acute drinking water shortage in north Karnataka and we have not yet discussed the issue with the government,” he added.

Halambi said it would be better to hold the state-level Kannada Literary Meet once in three years. “A section of Kannada activists and writers have opposed this move. A final decision would be taken in the next executive committee meeting,” he said. The Centre had neglected a plea filed by a Tamil activist against granting classical status for Kannada.
