THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Even as the extraordinary step of government chief whip P C George dashing off a letter to the country’s President and High Court Chief Justice and others seeking intervention with regard to the professional conduct of Thiruvananthapuram Special Vigilance judge in the contentious palmolein case has drawn all- round flak, political opinion is turning against the irrepressible Kerala Congress leader from Poonjaar with not only an embarrassed Chief Minister Oommen Chandy but even top leaders of his own party taking a strong position against his conduct.George told the Chief Minister directly that he was ready to quit the post of chief whip, it is reliably learnt. As things stand, George will be forced to quit the chief whip post on his own in the face of all-round criticism from both UDF and LDF or may face the axe once Kerala Congress supremo and Finance Minister K M Mani returns from France on September 17.Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan has already sought removal of George from the post of chief whip. That the issue has cropped at a time when the UDF Government’s 100 days action plan was heading to a close caused much heartburn among all UDF coalition partners as was evident from the distancing of all senior leaders from George’s stand.
