New Delhi: Chamail Singh, a key witness in the murder case of former Haryana village sarpanch Karam Singh, was found dead near a police post in Karnal on Wednesday.
Singh was in his mid-40s and a resident of Panipat. In a statement given on Monday, he said that he had paid a bribe of Rs 4 lakh to former Chief Parliamentary Secretary Zile Ram Sharma for securing a job for his kin.
Earlier this week, investigations into the case had prompted the resignation of former Haryana Transport and Tourism Minister OP Jain and Sharma.
The family members of Karam Singh, who was murdered on June 7, have alleged the involvement of Jain and Sharma. The family also claims that they are being threatened but that the government has done nothing.
Karam Singh's son, Rajinder Singh has further bolstered these allegations by saying that the two ministers had cheated his father of nearly Rs 13 lakh on the pretext of providing government jobs to him and two of his cousins.
A day before his murder, Karam Singh had submitted a written complaint in this regard to the chief minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
