KOZHIKODE: CPM State committee member Elamaram Kareem has alleged that Special Investigating Team (SIT), which is investigating the murder of T P Chandrasekharan, is using torture methods against the arrested CPM leaders. Addressing a press conference at the Party District Committee office here on Friday, he said, “the arrest of C H Ashokan, CPM Onchiyam Area Committee secretary, and K K Krishnan, Onchiyam Area Committee member, is part of a political conspiracy.”Kareem further said that in the name of the investigation, the police were torturing the accused and arrested persons which reminds of the Emergency period. “The SIT office has now been changed to a concentration camp, those remanded in connection with the Chandrashekaran murder case are being taken there and are subject to intense torture. A team led by DYSP Santhoshkumar is entitled to torture those arrested in order to take statements from them according to the will of the police. Home Minister, who earlier said that torture methods would not be used and investigation will be carried out based on scientific methods, should intervene in the matter,” he added.Lashing out at the media, Kareem said that the statements of C H Ashokan and Ramachandran given to the Police, which appeared in the media were completely wrong. “According to the media, Ramachandran has confessed that a conspiracy was hatched to murder Chandrasekharan, but to our knowledge, he has not given such a statement. The investigation is going on as per the earlier written script, which intends to trap the CPM leaders in the case.A section of the media, knowingly or unknowingly has become part of this,” Kareem said. He also said that the party would organise a march to the office of the Rural SP at Vadakkara on May 26.
