Director: Sunil Kumar Singh
Cast: Ganesh, Shradha Arya, Avinash, Tabala Naania and Sharan
After a series of flops such as Maleyali Jotheyali, Ullasa Utsaha and Cool, Ganesh returns with Maduve Mane (The Wedding Hall), directed by Sunil Kumar Singh.
Singh has directed serials for the Kannada TV channels. This is his film debut.
Ganesh, considered a youth heartthrob after the runaway hit Mungaru Male, continues in the same mode. The collaboration between a new director and a hit actor just does not work. This romantic comedy is bringing no joy to movie-goers. Loyal Ganesh fans are disappointed with the way his career his going, and this film will do nothing to lift their spirits.
The screenplay rehashes scenes from many south Indian movies, and if that isn't bad enough, it presents them in the same old fashion. Ganesh continues to bank on smart-Alec dialogue delivery. In the absence of an absorbing story, clever dialogue can only do so much and no more.
What's the movie about? Suraj (Ganesh) takes on fake encounter police officer Dushyant, who accidentally kills Preeti (Suraj's Sister) when he is out to eliminate a troublesome journalist. Suraj follows Dushyant to exopose his publicity craze and his cruel ways as the policeman is always killing innocent people in fake encounters. Preeti, Suraj's sister, is dreaming about becoming an astronaut when her life is snuffed out. Suraj tries to divert Suma's (Shradha Arya) attention away from her fiance Dushyant, and ends up falling in love with her. It doesn't take a super-intelligent viewer to predict that the story will end with a wedding, and at a Maduve Mane!
Ganesh presents nothing new in his acting. It is a pity that such a successful actor should imprison himself in hackneyed roles. In the second half, he looks completely jaded against his antagonist. Avinash (grandson of the late comedy legend Narasimharaju) puts up a better, more gripping performance as Dushyant. Shradha Arya is just a glamour doll, and has little to do.
